1000 Books
The preschool years, from birth to five, is a crucial time for children’s language and literacy learning. Early formative experiences with language, stories, and print have a lasting effect on ALL learning.

The 1000 Books Before Kindergarten is a program designed to encourage parents and caregivers to read on a regular basis to their children, especially those you have not yet started Kindergarten.

To encourage this activity, the West Caldwell Public Library is sponsoring a program to keep track of the number of books read and be eligible to win prizes.

Just stop by the Youth Services Desk and pick up your 1000 Books Before Kindergarten folder to get started. This will contain a list of recommended books – but read WHATEVER your kids want – along with a tracker for the books you have read.  No need to keep track of titles.  It’s very simple.  And if you read just one book each night in just three years you will have read 1,095 books. So it’s easier than you think to read those 1000 books!
