Who We Are

The West Caldwell Public Library is an inviting, efficient and well-stocked 12,000 square-foot computerized facility offering an online catalog, periodical index and member-access to the Internet. The Library is a popular meeting place for families, neighbors, friends and serious students. The Library is located on the first floor of the West Caldwell Municipal Building. The Library is a member of the Bergen County Cooperative Library System, BCCLS, which offers patrons the opportunity to borrow books and other materials from over seventy-four participating libraries. The collection offers approximately 40,000 book titles, 200 magazine and other periodical titles, a large selection of popular DVDs, music CDs and books on CD.

Year-round youth programming includes seasonal special programs such as the annual Summer Reading Club, special “Rhyme Times” for babies from birth through age two, “Fun Time” story times for preschoolers and “Library Stars” programs for children in grades kindergarten to second grade.

A wide variety of programs are held for adults including Friday afternoon movies, concerts, dramatic presentations, book discussions, and a Summer Reading program.

A well-trained, customer-service-oriented staff provides in-house, virtual, e-mail, or telephone information services from carefully selected reference materials and appropriate Internet sites. Reader’s Advisory services are available to help members find titles to meet their leisure reading needs.

Online database searching for hard-to-find items and borrowing from local, state and national interlibrary loan resources is available through the Reference Department.

The West Caldwell Public Library selects, acquires, organizes, and preserves print and non-print materials of contemporary interest and permanent value for the education, intellectual stimulation, research, business needs, personal growth, and pleasure of the entire community of West Caldwell. The Library upholds the principles of intellectual freedom and the public’s right to know by providing people of all ages with access and guidance to information and collections that reflect all points of view. The Library designs and provides its services and facilities to satisfy the varied information needs of its community and encourages the use of these resources by keeping the public aware and informed of their availability. The Library staff is committed to and prides itself on providing outstanding customer service to all patrons whether they visit the Library in person, call or e-mail the Library.
